Below are the essentials to using a domain for email send-from-address. Detailed setup information follows for your IT staff.
To use ANY DOMAIN as a valid send-from email address, for any postal address, the following needs to be accomplished in the DNS records.
1. The domain or subdomain must have a valid MX record.
2. The domain or subdomain needs to have the following DKIM record in the DNS records:
'dmp._domainkey.us.YOURDOMAIN.COM CNAME dkim1.dmplocal.com'
3. The domain or subdomain needs to have a valid SPF in the DNS records to allow our servers to send on behalf of your domain.
'v=spf1 mx include:_spf.dmplocal.com -all'
4. The domain or subdomain needs to answer to a https:// request, even if it redirects to some other website.
5. The domain or subdomain should not be a newly registered domain as it will be seen as suspicious.
6. The domain or subdomain it is a new domain for email use, you should not use it for large campaigns. No greater than 5,000 to begin with and gradually increase.
7. The domain or subdomain should have a valid DMARC record, but those are your business policies and practices. It should have a quarantine/reject policy defined.
NOTE; Under no circumstance should an email address from an ESP be used as a send-from-email address, i.e. outlook.com, gmail.com, yahoo.com, etc. It must be a domain you control.
There is an order to the process for setting up these domains:
1. The domain owner creates the 3 domain records; SPF, DKIM and DMARC
2. Our IT creates DNS records on our end to supply the DKIM keys.
3. Your Distribion specialist configures the platform to sign DKIM for the email at the time of send.
